Michelin Starred Dim Sum | Bo London | Mayfair | 11th November 2013

When an opportunity arises to munch on Michelin Starred food …one is clearly bonkers not to say yes! Especially when it’s dim sum food Michelin-fied! My husband and I invited a another couple to join us for dim sum lunch and we rocked down to London to try out Hong Kong Chef Alvin Leung’s creative culinary cuisine that has tantalised other people’s taste buds, we knew we had to give it a go ourselves.
Especially as we wanted to sample the high cuisine version of the traditional dim sum served in your local Chinese restaurant. Some of dishes in the Michelin starred menu included Black Truffle Soy Chinese Cheung Fun, Fried Squid Ball with Kaffir Lime, Unami Noodles, Har Gau with Black Truffle XO and Classic Xiau Long Bao.

Though the food was beautifully presented, looked and tasted delightful, it was disappointing to be presented with extra-petit portions servings, especially the Cheung Fun. I literally had to place the camera a few millimetres in front of it in order to capture the food. Now, I am not jaded, I know Michelin food is often served in smaller portions (we have previously sampled a tasting menu in Florence in Four seasons Hotel, Il Palagio, one-starred Michelin Restaurant before and we left feeling completely satisfied). However, Bo London took the ‘nouvelle cuisine’ to a new level. Besides the dumplings, portion sizes was beyond ridiculous for some of the dishes. Some dishes tasted 'ok', nothing extraordinary or worthy of a 1-star Michelin, in my opinion. On a lighter note, I would still recommend Bo London on flavour, taste and texture combination of some of the other dishes we sampled.

As Bo London menu prices were slightly off-putting, I personally would not return again as the menu was too expensive for what it was. This calibre of fine dining is not something we do frequently, but when we do, it must be memorable for all the right reasons.

Lobster And Burger, London SoHo

For Kevin's birthday, we celebrated with our closest friends at Lobster & Burger in London SoHo.

This place did not disappoint.

Menu was simple: Grilled or Steamed Lobster, Lobster Roll or Burgers

Their signature lobster dish.... Enticingly presented, good looking, and very tasty.

Great company, fab food, buzzing ambiance and most importantly, perfect husband.

Happy birthday to you

The Apocolips is here!

(from left to right: Luna, Nova & Stellar)

Right now, am absolutely loving the Rimmel's Apocolips Lip Lacquer RRP £5.99. Boots currently have a 3 for 2 promotion so I grabbed myself 3 of these babies to try out. There were 8 colour choices available and personally for me, I think I made some good choices! =^^= One for an everyday look, one for a date look and one to damn impress! I had not set out to pick colours for these occasions; it just panned out that way!

The consistency is across a lipstick and a lip gloss. It gives the intense rich colour of a lipstick, enhanced by a satin smooth shine. I am considering purchasing the whole colour collection…but for now, I’ll see how long my enthusiasm lasts before the novelty wears off.

At £5.99 you can’t whinge. Great colour pay off, pigment is awesome and the staying power? ….well, that depends on you!

Tonkotsu in SoHo & Golden Gate Dessert

This weekend Kev and I made our way through the freezing and snowy conditions in London for a leaving party. We decided to warm up before the event so we found this wonderful Japanese Restaurant in SoHo which creates the most amazing broth for Ramen.

Anyone who has eaten good ramen will know the importance of making a soup stock with perfectly balanced intensity. The main ingredients are a deeply flavoursome stock made from pork and chicken bones with vegetables and sometimes fish bones or katsuboshi ‘bonito’. Toppings vary hugely depending on the kind of ramen and the chef, from sweetcorn and butter to black sesame and garlic paste, but in almost all cases, there’ll be pork and a perfectly marinated gooey-yolked egg.

We ordered:

Handmade Prawn Gyoza, £5

Tonkotsu, £11
Rich, sea salt-based pork stock and thin noodles topped with slices of melt-in-the-mouth pork belly, half a seasoned soft-boiled egg, menma, bean sprouts and spring onions

Tokyo Spicy, £9
Soy sauce-based pork and chicken stock and medium thick noodles topped with pulled chilli pork, half a seasoned soft-boiled egg, menma and spring onions

The desserts we had were from the Golden Cake shop in Chinatown. Delish!!

This broth takes 18 hours to make and the intensity of flavours were apparent

For dessert we had: Soybean Curd & Soybean Milk with Barley.

Mango Ice Cream Cake.
